The Kopin Corporation is Changing the Way We Watch TV; Miniature LCD Screens and Personal Video Technology

July 6th 2009 | Posted by Drew

One Similar Product Offered by RelaxView

One Similar Product Offered by RelaxView

It has been said many times that people who purchase enormous flat screen TV’s, oversized LCD screens or luxury cars are simply compensating for something. Another popular saying is that big things do indeed come in small packages. It seems that every major technology company is trying to go smaller, go greener or become more efficient in some facet or any other. We are now entering a world of undercompensation, (Webster’s needs to add the word to the dictionary, ASAP) and the Kopin Corporation has seemingly found a way to do all three while trying to prove that size does not matter. The company has created a range of LCD displays that are described as “CyberDisplay”. Their newest creation measures in at just .027 inches yet displays a resolution of 600 X 480. While you may think this type of LCD screen would just be a novelty, it could have a major impact on the display market on the whole, and the way you watch movies.

At the moment these tiny little CyberDisplays are used throughout smaller camcorders, but there is a lot of thought being put into the creation of personal eye wear. This sort of technology would allow people to wear the screen in the same way they wear sunglasses and immerse themselves in a portable High-Def experience, for games, TV and movies. While this is a big step for Kopin, the ultimate goal is to come up with a postage stamp sized screen with a resolution of 2048 X 2048, and they believe they are close.

Many thought we wouldn’t see this kind of technology for years, but Kopin has managed to take down a number of barriers and are now on the verge of the ultimate creation, thanks to their ability to create these miniscule pixels. All that is left to do is find a way to fit the pixels together in a seamless manner. This technology has a lot more to offer than you may first imagine and,  just like objects in your rear view mirror, may be closer than it appears.

Think about digital cameras. The resolution on the viewfinders is deplorable at best. How many times have you assumed your picture or video is clear by using the viewfinder, only to return home and realize your shot is about as crisp as an old Charlie Chaplin movie?   Kopin is about to revolutionize the way we use digital cameras, and a whole host of other electronics.

While there are millions of people who enjoy watching movies and playing games on the tiny screens offered by gadgets like the iPod, we have come to expect that a small screen and poor quality go hand in hand. That no longer has to be the case. With these new LCD screens positiononed close to the eyes, you will be able to view the screen in the same resolution and depth that the screens at a movie theatre can offer, no matter where you are or what you are doing.

This is not one of those far off goals that “may” come around in the distant future either. There are already a number of similar products from Kopin available and they have just begun to scratch the surface. At the moment you can even get your hands on a low resolution CyberDisplay for as low as $45. However if it is the super technology you are after you are going to have to be willing to part with a few paychecks, as a backlit model comes in right around $3,500. As the technology becomes more advanced and the company creates a number of differing models, the price is sure to come down and become more convenient for the average Joe.

We are constantly hearing about technology getting smaller, faster and better. Many people think that there is only so much left to do, but every day some company proves that theory wrong. Phones continue to get smaller, computers continue to get more powerful, and the way we go about our everyday lives is changing every day. There seems to be no ceiling for science and technology. How long until we are riding around in cars the size of a skateboard or having cell phones surgically lodged into your thumbs? Only time will tell.

Absolut Drinkspiration; Mobile Technology and Alcohol Create Another Love Child

July 6th 2009 | Posted by Drew

Another Job Well Done Thanks to a DT

Another Job Well Done Thanks to a DT

Every day it seems that mobile technology and the people that use it reach new highs, or shall we say lows. We have finally gotten to the point where people grab onto their Blackberry while at the bar, not just to answer phone calls, but to change their status on Facebook. Advances in mobile technology were supposed to make our lives simpler, easier and more advanced. Now all that happens is that every time you log onto a social networking site, you get bombarded with status updates or random tweets on twitter. Most of them usual go a little bit like this, “ Bar Fight…Totally Rad” or, “ I hate mother f*ckin guys who think that they just wanna do what they want and then talk what they want and then start talking on whoever they want and then get mad when I like talk on whoever I want. If you don’t want it done like that, then don’t do it yourself…..pshhhh!” Or these types of tweets are also starting to get quite popular, “I likes sdfhf awesfdome timlles sooooooo wasdtted…woooooooo yeahhhh!”

Are Phones Making our Lives Better……or Worse?

Is this really what we were after when we created all this new supposedly “life changing” technology? Do we really need more ways for people we barely know to keep us updated on what they are doing, what they are eating, or who they are with every minute of the day? Do you remember the days when drinking a bottle of Merlot and then emailing an ex was the worst thing you could do? Wow, are those days ever behind us. Email just looks like a harmful, innocent bystander these days. Is this to say Facebook is a completely useless tool? Not at all. Are social networking sites like Twitter pointless and redundant? Wellll…..someone did save Perez Hilton from getting beat up thanks to a tweet he posted on twitter, so it can’t be all that bad, right?

An All New Application; Drinkspiration

The truth is that a lot of people just like you are sitting back and wondering just how far this technology train will go. Some people are hoping that Apple finds a way to attach breathalyzers to iPhones before allowing users to drunkenly ramble on or check their MySpace. However, it does not look like that is going to happen, especially with the release of the new phone application, “Drinkspiration.” The makers of Absolut vodka (insert shameless plug here) have created a new application that can recommend the proper cocktail depending on the user’s current mood, location, and time of day (never too early for a Bloody Mary). Did mobile technology and alcohol really need to get mixed in together any further? Now this is not to say it won’t be a fun application, in fact we will probably be one of the first to use it. All we are asking is that you drink responsibly. When you go out to the club or head to a house party…….please bring a DT. Be kind to your designated texter. Make sure they are having a fun time, let them play all your little cool games on your Blackberry and for the sake of us all, listen to your DT when they tell you it is not a good idea to change your Facebook status at 5am after trying each and every cocktail suggested by Drinkspiration. Be kind, have fun, drink responsibly and for the love of Tweet, sign on in the morning, after you have had that Bloody Mary in hopes of killing that crushing hangover.

All New Technology for the PS3; New Updates from Sony Could Mean an All New Way to Play

July 5th 2009 | Posted by Drew

Put Down That Old Fashioned Controller and Pick Up.....ANYTHING

Put Down That Old Fashioned Controller and Pick Up.....ANYTHING

With all the news in the video game world seemingly focused on Project Natal, Sony is trying to fight back. They have come out with a press release discussing the fact that the PS3 will one day be able to use the same type of technology, but with a very interesting twist.

Essentially what gamers will be able to do is take any object around the house, save it to a file by rotating in front of the camera and then use it as a motion controlled wand. Sounds pretty ridiculous, and almost unnecessary in a way but who hasn’t been trying to find some use for their unused coasters on the coffee table. Better yet, imagine playing MLB: The Show with an actual full sized bat. Oh the YouTube videos that are sure to follow should provide hours of entertainment. How long will it take before someone actually thinks it is funny to play Grand Theft Auto with a loaded pistol?

While there are no full details on the project or information on when the update will be released, there is one thing that is for certain. Flat screen repair shops will be laughing all the way to the bank if the technology takes off. Remember how many Nintendo Wii owners were sending their remotes flying into their big screen TV’s? One can only imagine just how many beer bottles, pool cues and Pomeranians will end up soaring through the air, while people try to beat their old high scores in an all new way.

Keep your ears open and your eyes peeled for more updates from Sony during the upcoming Develop Conference that will take place July 14th

Printable Batteries; Affordable, Environmentally Friendly, Smaller and More Convenient

July 3rd 2009 | Posted by Drew

You May Never Have to Use a Duracell Again

You May Never Have to Use a Duracell Again

Plain and simple, batteries are annoying. They are big, bulky and almost seem to die when you need them the most. However some new technology is finding a way to eliminate at least one of the problems when it comes to batteries, size. A research team from the Fraunhofer Research Institution has found a way to create a printable battery that weighs less than a gram, is smaller than a millimeter thick, and can be mass produced in a very effective way.

Dr. Reinhard Baumann began the study in the hopes that they could find a way to mass produce batteries at a fraction of the current cost. It appears they have succeeded. The main difference for this cutting-edge battery is simply the size. The fact that it is so small means that it can be attached to all sorts of devices such as bank cards. It is also extremely environmentally friendly as it does not contain any mercury yet still has about 1.5 volts of power. Even better yet, you can get up to 6 volts just by placing the printable batteries side by side.

The batteries achieve their power from a chemical process that meshes together zinc and manganese in order to produce electricity. However the batteries do tend to wear down quickly so for now they are perfect for items that have a limited life span.

Essentially the batteries are made in much the same way that t-shirts are. They are printed off using silk screens and that is why they can be manufactured in such massive quantities. If the researchers can find a way to harness the power of these printable batteries and make them last even longer, you may just be able to kiss those annoying AA’s goodbye. I know many people expected us to have flying cars and jetpacks by the year 2009, but aside from that paper batteries are pretty damn cool.

Solar Vest- The Ultimate Solution for Charging your Portable Gadgets

July 1st 2009 | Posted by Drew

solar-vestIf you are fed up with mobile batteries getting discharged when you are on an outing or have ever been frustrated by the desire to take a picture of the mesmerizing sights on your trip just to have your handy cam die down, this solar vest is meant for you. The incredible charger is meant to terminate all such annoying situations on your outing.

What the Solar Vest Can Do for You

The Solar vest has 4 weather proof solar panels at the back which convert the Solar Energy into Electrical energy (DC) to charge electronic gadgets. The solar panels have 6 Watts of power each. It not only works solely with Solar Energy but also can be given direct electricity supply from AC mains. The Solar Vest uses the 8800mAh capacity lithium battery to store the solar energy in the form of an electrical charge.  This is the rough equivalence of a netbook battery that consists of 9 lithium cells. The Vest also offers a lighting system with 3 super bright Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs with long connection wires of around 10m. The power consumption of the lighting system is 3 Watts.

A Plethora of Functions at Your Disposal

The Solar Vest has expandable pockets all over it which can support various electronic gadgets in it along with the charger and the battery that come with it. There are multiple adapter chargers associated with the battery with voltage specifications of 5V, 6V, 9V, 12-20 V. In all there are 8 different power connectors and 7 different device connectors for charging.  The gadgets that are chargeable through the use of the Solar Vest chargeable include iPhones, laptops, mobiles, blackberry, digital camera and many more.

The Solar Vest is About More than Just Fashion

As of now, the Solar Vest is being criticized for its “Unfashionable” appeal and big awkward print at the back that states, “SOLAR VEST”. However the purpose for which it is meant is not about fashion. It is intended to reduce the inconvenience caused due to the lack of charging support during a lengthy outing. Not only this, the Solar Vest is quite handy in many situations such as for outdoor lighting in an emergency, rescuing, camping and of course charging numerous electronic gadgets ranging from iPhones to digi-cams. Thus the Solar Vest is an electronic gadget which adds to the utility of numerous electronic gadgets. The cost of this valuable charging utility has been unveiled recently and it will be available on the market at around 140$.  Retailers that carry the product are scarce as of now but the vest should be available in a number of stores and online shops in the upcoming weeks.

Tired of Lugging Around your Laptop Adapter? Look into the Cooler Master SNA 95 for a Better Laptop Experience

June 30th 2009 | Posted by Drew

You Do Not Have to Lug Around Heavy Computer Parts Anymore

You Do Not Have to Lug Around Heavy Computer Parts Anymore

If you ever have trouble getting your laptop of charged or are sick of cramming that massive plug into your slick little man purse, then you will want to keep your eyes peeled for the Cooler Master SNA 95.  It is the smallest 95W laptop on the market but still packs a pretty powerful punch and comes with a few extras tacked on.

The Cooler Master comes in at just around 2.9 X 0.7 X 5.7 and once again proves that good things can come in small packages. A lot of us are hoping and praying that one day we will be able to charge our laptops wirelessly, but until that day this new laptop adapter seems to be the best choice.

On top of the nine bundled tips the Cooler Master also comes with LED indicators, a USB port and sleek cable management system. All in all it isn’t anything EXTREMELY revolutionary but it is small, sleek and gets the job done. Not too shabby considering it already comes in at just $70 and should fall further in price relatively soon.

Surely there are plenty of Dell computer owners that have to be fed up with their laptop adapters that are comparable to the size of an XBOX 360. How portable are laptops with that kind of an adapter really expected to be? The only drawback for now is that the Cooler Master does not appear to be compatible with Macbooks, but really what is?

Love Movies, TV and Music? Pump Up Your iPod with the iJector

June 27th 2009 | Posted by Drew

Big Screen Movie Action on the Go

Big Screen Movie Action on the Go

Projectors are an indispensable need of today’s corporate world. They are important for business meetings, pitching proposals and putting together sales campaigns. But that doesn’t mean that projectors need to be boring or cannot be used for pure entertainment. We have gone through various generations of elegant projectors which project the video output of computers, notebooks, laptops and palmtops on to the wall for presentation and explaining purposes. Recently though society has become obsessed with powerful technology in small packages. Technology has shrunk further from iPods and iPhones to 3G phones, the thus the need aroused to develop a projector for such iPods and iPhones.

A Japanese company by the name of Lancerlink realized the desire for a smaller projector that could link into an iPod and recently introduced the sleek and elegant looking iJector, which works with iPhones and iPods. The product is licensed by the company apple, perhaps the reason for that ‘i’ in the name. This was a much needed invention because everybody today prefers to stick to his/her iPod or iPhone rather than notebooks and desktops due to the ease of portability of these nano gadgets.

The iJector is an LCOS projector with which you can project your iPhones and iPods onto a screen with a diagonal length of up to 50 inches at a distance of 2.3 m. The iJector helps you project your iPhone and iPod screen with great brightness onto the giant screen. The resolution of the projection is 557 into 234 pixels. The company claims that the life span of the lamp used in the iJector is around 30,000 hours and the brightness which it can provide is 20 lumens. The projector has built in speakers which also enable you to watch audio video media with amplified sound.

The portable projector weighs just around 120 grams and has the dimensions of 19.5×14.5×9.6cm. The iJector is exclusively developed for iPods. Thus, most iPods are compatible with the iJector which include the iPod nano generations 1, 2, 3 and 5, the  iPod classic (80 GB and 160 GB), the iPod touch (8GB, 16GB and 32 GB) and the iPhone 3.0. However the iPhone 3GS is missing from the compatibility line up which is a major concern for people who posses an iPhone 3GS.

The product is yet to be marketed and the sale of the iJector is expected to begin in the middle of July in 2009 in Japan. The expected retail price is around 700$ for the new iJector. There is no doubt that it is going to bring about a big revolution in the market and will enhance the sale of the existing iPods and iPhones. Thus another “made for ipod” product is waiting for its debut. It has to make you wonder what is next. It seems that every new product is being designed with iPods in mind, how far away is the iRefrigerator or even the iCar? Who knows.

The Spy Cobra USB; Track Online Activity, Spy on Computers and Keep Your Children Safe Online

June 26th 2009 | Posted by Drew

Monitor Your Children, Keep Track of Internet Activity or Just Have Fun

Monitor Your Children, Keep Track of Internet Activity or Just Have Fun

If you are fed up with flop tricks to monitor the activities of other computers, then this specially designed and dazzling USB drive is perfect for you. The Spy Cobra USB is designed to be able to perform cover surveillance on any computer, no matter whom you are keeping your eye on or where you are. The spy cobra USB drive is an undetectable way of monitoring any PC. All you need to do is just plug the drive into the computer; it will then furtively install a program onto that computer. Once it is complete, you unplug the drive and simply move along. Thus, you don’t end up leaving anything suspicious on or around the computer.

Powerful Spy Software

The software program is designed in such a manner that it keeps on running in the background and can’t be detected in the graphical interface. Even most of the best anti-spywares are not able to detect the software. The program is a typical key logger that also holds the capability to remember pages visited and take screenshots at regular intervals. This is how the program keeps a vigil over the activities of the computer.

You can set the regular time interval after which the program will take the screenshots of the computer. The program keeps track of every keystroke that happens during the pre-set time frame. It is also capable of recording conversations on Instant Messengers from both parties involved in the discussion. The log for those keystrokes, the screenshots, and the web pages visited are all kept secretly in the computer under surveillance until you retrieve it with the USB cobra drive. The data is strongly encrypted so that it cannot be interpreted.

The retrieval process is pretty easy; you just need to insert the USB drive back into the PC and all the data recorded will be uploaded onto that drive. You can then take out the drive and check it on any other computer, at anytime you want. In this manner you can stealthily keep an eye on others. The current version of the Spy Cobra USB drive is compatible with Windows operating systems including Windows XP and Vista.

Great Power at a Reasonable Price

Who could have thought that the sleek USB thumb drive can surreptitiously disclose all your activities in such an innocent manner? This is a perfect e-gadget that the most worried parents have been searching for endlessly for quite some time. It is a convenient and easy way to keep track of their children’s activities on the internet and their PCs. This USB device also provides an excellent way to monitor your subordinates’ activities in the office, or even play a prank on some of your friends. You can also benefit from this miraculous 1 GB USB drive at a reasonable price roughly ranging from 70$ to 100$. So get out there and keep track of other’s online activity, but just be careful, with great power comes great responsibility.

A Review of the Eclipse Intuit; Go Green, Use Solar Power and Get Your Hands on a Hot, New, Mobile Phone

June 25th 2009 | Posted by Drew

Save the Environment and Chat it Up on your Mobile Phone

Save the Environment and Chat it Up on your Mobile Phone

Love your cell phone and all its applications and the convenience it offers but worried about the environment and want to “go green”? Then you are going to love the idea of this new concept phone. Sure it is just an idea, and if it comes to fruition it is going to be exceptionally expensive, but it will definitely be a mobile hit. The Eclipse Intuit is looking to be the first solar powered cell phone to hit the market. How does it draw its energy if there isn’t an outlet nearby? That’s easy, it derives its power from the sun.

Just for the fun of it, let us pretend that the Eclipse Intuit is in fact a real phone. It will be powered by Windows Mobile and is packed with a ton of features and a whole host of intriguing specs. Possibly the most unique is that it intends to incorporate two touch screens, instead of just one; one screen for all your usual applications and calling and browsing and the other one being a simplified, sliding touch screen.

The mini solar panels attached to the phone will provide it with most of the energy it needs, barring an extremely cloudy day. On top of that, the phone comes with a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi support and a whole load of new features that cannot be found on any other phone right now.

The excitement over the Eclipse Intuit is building fast. In fact quite rapidly considering the phone is not available yet and may not be available for quite some time. The fact is that the idea is intriguing, the applications are promising and phone itself is fascinating. There is no doubt that no matter the price or the release date, the Eclipse Intuit is going to be a smashing success. Play games, text, chat and make phone calls, all while enjoying the fact that you are helping the environment and continuing the transition to a greener world.

PC Gadgets and Hardware Buying Guide – How to Choose the Right Motherboard

June 23rd 2009 | Posted by Drew

Frustrated with Computer Shopping and Thinking about Taking it to the Streets?

Frustrated with Computer Shopping and Thinking about Taking it to the Streets?

Of all the gadgets and hardware that a computer has, the motherboard is the most important of all. Think about it – all of your system’s components and gadgets are all linked back to your motherboard. Choose the wrong one and no matter how good your video card, audio card, or processor is, you will have problems in the long run.

Now here’s the problem – choosing the right motherboard can be a daunting task! If you’re planning to build your own PC and you don’t have even the slightest idea how to choose the right motherboard, then reading this article would help you the most.

Finding the Right Processor

“What is the processor I am planning to use?”

Asking this question is a must when buying your PC gadgets and hardware…especially your motherboard. Get this – not all motherboards are created equal. Not all motherboards will support the same type or brand of processor.

If you have an Intel Dual Core processor, the motherboard of your choice must be able to support that processor.

Choosing a Chipset

Just in case you didn’t know, chipsets are the main controllers on your motherboard. They give your PC the power to interact and support different parts of your motherboard as well as expansion cards. Your chipset depends largely on the memory that your motherboard supports.

You should make sure that your motherboard supports the type and the size of RAM that your system and your chipset need to run optimally.

I NEED More Slots!

It’s not unusual for us to attach or link other cards and peripherals to our computers. It’s important that your motherboard has more than enough expansion slots and connectors. Many of today’s motherboards come with USB 2.0 ports. While this may be enough for most of the average PC users around, you may need more.

For example, if you intend to do a lot of video capturing, editing, and more, you want a motherboard that has a Firewire port incorporated to it. On the other hand, if you’re not sure how many cards you’ll need, it’s important to make sure that your motherboard has enough PCI slots.

Add-Ons

Many of today’s motherboards come with their own bells and whistles. On-board Ethernet, audio cards, RAID controllers, and that’s just to name a few. This will help you save a lot of money. If you can find a motherboard that has the features and added services that you’re looking for, without sacrificing performance and quality, by all means go for it!

One warning though – don’t go for motherboards with built-in video cards. These built-in video cards tend to hog down your computer’s memory. They can be a pain especially if you are into gaming and graphics design.

To tell the truth, choosing the right computer can be exhausting, trying and downright complicated. Motherboards are the brain and most important part of a computer, so when shopping for a computer it is often best to start with the motherboard. Once you have the best motherboard you can slowly place the other pieces together and build around it. Try your best to research as much as you can, weigh your options and educate yourself before you make the purchase that is going to change your life for the next year, or hopefully more.
