*Garmin Nuvi 760 – Using Tomorrow’s Technology In Today’s GPS Devices*

June 22nd 2009 | Posted by Drew

Put Down the Map and Let the Garmi Nuvi 760 Lead the Way

Put Down the Map and Let the Garmi Nuvi 760 Lead the Way

Garmin – there’s no doubt about it, they’re one of the best if not the best manufacturers of GPS devices on the face of the planet. I don’t know what the engineers and guys that work at Garmin eat, but they always come up with creative ways to blow the competition out of the water!

And yet again, Garmin surpassed everyone’s expectations…flooring even their previously magnificent GPS devices with the Garmin Nuvi 76. Let’s take a closer look at this cool and revolutionary little gadget…

*Where Am I?*“Where am I?” Are you sick of asking yourself the same question over and over again as you fly past street signs and curse at every car that passes by? You simply have to hate asking this question whenever you’re traveling. It simply means that you are lost and don’t have even the foggiest idea which way to turn or where to go. Funny enough, “Where Am I” is the feature that makes the Garmin Nuvi 760 such a powerful device!

No matter where you are and no matter what time it is, with only a single tap on the screen, you can display and view your exact location – the latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest addresses, hospitals, police stations, gas stations, and that’s just to name a few.

There’s no way you could get lost with it. No matter how vast or unfamiliar the place you’re in is. With the Garmin Nuvi 760, asking “Where Am I?”, doesn’t end up being that frustrating of a question anymore.

*Running Errands With The Nuvi 760*

Admit it – we are living a lifestyle that’s so fast-paced that we sometimes can’t keep up with it. And it’s not unusual for us to run errands…going to different places and attending two different events in one go.

Luckily, the Garmin Nuvi 760 is well-built to help you cope with your breakneck-speed lifestyle…at least in the “running errands” department. You see, with the Garmin Nuvi 760, you can enter several spots –  the supermarket, laundry shops, office, and more. The GPS device will proceed to plot the fastest route to cover all of the destinations in the least amount of time and with as little effort as possible.

Not to mention you can save up to 10 different paths or routes. This is very handy especially for those who go to the same places and attend to the same errands day in and day out.

*A Whopping 4.3 Inch-Screen*

Having a 3.5 inch-screen, which is standard among today’s GPS devices, is cool and decent enough. But having a super-bright 4.3 touch-screen display is fantastic. Not to mention this touch-screen is self adjusting. During the daytime, the 4.3 inch touch-screen is beefed up with anti-glare color profile. And then, when dusk steps in, it changes its color profile…making it easy to view at night or under dim light.

There are an infinite number of GPS systems and Sat Nav devices available on the market. Finding the one that suits your lifestyle and your budget can be a task in and of itself. In fact you may end up getting more lost searching for such a system than you would searching for that fancy restaurant you ate at one time a few years back. Sure the Garmin Nuvi 760 may not be for everyone, but it comes pretty darn close. You can save a lot of time and hardship by looking into this GPS system and finding out that it just may be perfect for you and all your GPS needs.

Wireless VS. Mobile Computing; What is the Difference? What Do They Do? Which Applications, Features, Gadgets, Technology and Functions are Involved?

June 21st 2009 | Posted by Drew

A Mobile Computing Fan's Version of Heaven

A Mobile Computing Fan's Version of Heaven

We all know about laptops, wireless, Wi-Fi and cell phones. But, do we understand the different types of wireless, applications and devices that have been created for our personal use? Purely for fun, let us look into the differences between wireless and mobile computing and the main applications and devices that are used.

Wireless refers to the method of transferring information between a computing device, such as a personal data assistant (PDA), and a data source, such as an agency database server, without a physical connection. However, not all wireless communications technologies are created equally, offer the same uses or are even mobile.

Mobile computing refers to computing devices that are not restricted to a desktop. A mobile device may be a PDA, a smart phone or a web phone, a laptop computer, or any one of numerous other devices that allow the user to complete tasks without being tethered, or connected, to a network. Mobile computing does not necessarily require wireless communication. In fact, it may not require communication between devices at all.

Wireless communication is simply data communication without the use of a landline. This may involve a cellular telephone, a two way radio, a fixed wireless connection, a laser, or satellite communications. Here the computing device is continuously connected to the base network.

Mobile or “untethered” computing essentially refers to a device that is not always connected to a central network. This group of devices includes laptops, newly created smart phones and also PDA’s. These products may communicate with a base location, with or without, a wireless connection
Now let us explain more about various technologies and interfaces that are used for wireless and mobile computing.

1. GSM

GSM stands for Global System for Mobile communications, which is one of the leading digital cellular systems. The GSM standard for digital cell phones was established in Europe in the mid 1980’s. GSM has now become the international standard in Europe, Australia and much of Asia and Africa.

2. CDMA

CDMA stands for Code-Division Multiple Access and is a digital cellular technology that uses spread-spectrum techniques to utilize different applications in different areas.

3. WLL

WLL is short for wireless in a local loop. Mobile telephone is primarily meant to provide telephony for people on the move. The telephone is meant to keep the person connected while he or she is away from their home or office.

4. 3G and EDGE

It is a specification for the third generation of mobile communication technology. 3G is dedicated to providing increased bandwidth. So much so that it can deliver 384 Kbps on a slow moving device, 128 Kbps when located in a car and up to 2 Mbps when attached to a fixed device or application.

5. SMS

Short message service is the transmission of short text messages to and from a mobile phone, fax machine and / or IP address. Messages must be no longer than some fixed numbers of alpha numeric characters and contain no images or graphics.

6. Email

Email is basically short form for electronic mail or, messages sent electronically. Electronic mail is changing how the world thinks about exchanging information. It has invaded every area of computing and has revolutionized science and business. Scientists across the world are searching for and using information through electronic mail.

Nowadays, technology is improving exponentially with each passing day. People, technology, gadgets and computers are making our lives easier and more luxurious. The only question that really remains is just how far we can go and how many improvements will be made. Are we going to get to the point where we all have Wi-Fi installed within our wrists via a mini chip? Or are new gadgets, concepts and ideas going to take over and revolutionize the way we live? Only time will tell. All we can do is stay informed, keep up to date and enjoy dabbling in the benefits that technology brings into our lives.

New iPhone App: MyVibe – The First iPhone Sex Toy App

June 19th 2009 | Posted by Drew

The MyVibe: Taking the Vibration Setting to a Whole New Level

The MyVibe: Taking the Vibration Setting to a Whole New Level

You may want to think twice before grabbing your friend’s iPhone again. A new application has been released for the iPhone by Apple which makes it possible to turn an innocent looking phone into a sex toy! That’s right; the MyVibe app which can be found in the iTunes store for free can turn your iPhone into a vibrator!

How It Works

The application includes a power button which is similar to a computer’s power button, and arrows (up and down) to control the vibration. A lower number vibration level will make the pulses quicker and a higher number vibration level will make the pulses slower.

When the MyVibe app is turned on, you can use the arrows to control the vibrator while it works its magic and hits a climax that no one thought possible via a phone. The vibration intensity does have its limits since the iPhone can only vibrate so much, but the application never guarantees ultimate pleasure either.

Choose How you Use MyVibe Wisely

It may just be a cool feature to some but others may still use the application for sexual pleasure. To be honest, what you choose to do with this new iPhone application is completely up to you. And what you do in the privacy of home is no one’s business but yours. Whether you use this application for its literal use, or as a joke, the fact remains that it is quite entertaining either way. This application takes text messaging that cutie you met at the bar a whole new meaning.

The MyVibe application could bring a whole new meaning to phone sex, adding vibration to the genitals while sending dirty texts back and forth to your partner can definitely make things more interesting. However if you find yourself with your partner and you’re fooling around with the iPhone vibrator app, you may want to turn your ringer off so that your boss or mother doesn’t end up calling you in the middle of a juicy situation. With this application it is important to remember when it is time for fun, and when it is time to be serious.

Whether the iPhone’s MyVibe app interests you enough to use it as a sex toy or you just want to play around with it, there is nothing to lose by trying it out. Since it’s completely free to download you might as well get it from the iTunes app store today.

The 5.11 Tactical Series UC3 400; The Last Rechargeable Flashlight You Will Ever Need?

June 17th 2009 | Posted by Drew

Never Lose Rover in the Night Again

Never Lose Rover in the Night Again

What is not to love about flashlights? Everyone needs at least one, or even ten, lying around the house at all times. Whether you think the power might go out, the kids might be scared or just like the way they look, flashlights have been one of the “it” gadgets for quite some time now. The annoying part is how quickly they die out or how often the batteries need to be changed. It always seems that whenever you actually need a flashlight, it doesn’t even work. Well those days are over. If you are looking for a reliable and high powered flashlight, you dream has come true with the 5.11 Tactical Series UC3 400. Many experts have called it the last flashlight you will ever need.

Power and Long Lasting

The 5.11 boasts a pretty powerful 90 lumens over the span of a 90 minute charge. The company itself makes the pretty powerful claim that it the gadget itself will last for up to 50,000 recharges. Essentially that means you can charge the UC3 400 every day for the next 135 years. Long enough to keep your life lit up, as well as your grandkids’.

Now this doesn’t mean that you have to charge it for 90 minutes every time. The storage system takes advantage of ultracapacitor energy which allows it to charge up in just a minute and a half. What if the power goes out? No problem. The 5.11 UC3 400 also comes with a 12V DC charger that is completely automatic in case a storm hits just a bit too hard, or you forget to pay your electricity bill.

Worth the Price?

Whether you buy into the fact that it is said to last for 50,000 recharges remains to be seen, however, the ten year warranty should be more than enough to persuade you. The price may seem a little step at around $170, but think of the battery savings that are sure to come about over that time? Is it completely worth it? Ask yourself the same question the next time you reach for a flashlight, and all you can find is a fancy tea candle.

June 14th 2009 | Posted by Drew

Goodbye Starbucks, Hello Variety with the Nescafe Dolce Gusto

Goodbye Starbucks, Hello Variety with the Nescafe Dolce Gusto

Not only is it impossible to find the time to make it to the coffee shop in the morning, but those $7 lattes have to be killing your wallet. A small one time investment for a coffee maker is a great way to have coffee ready and waiting for you in the morning and to bust the recession. Forget standing in line and being overcharged at Starbucks, look into these top of the line barista machines and let that sweet smell of java energize you in the morning.

Nescafe Dolce Gusto

If you aren’t the type that follows routine and goes with the same cup of coffee everyday, then you will fall in love with the Nescafe Dolce Gusto. It brews everything from espressos to lattes to Americanos in single cup servings, thus you don’t have to wait a half hour to get your coffee boost in the morning. It makes as delectable of a cup of coffee that you will find in any shop, and won’t ask for a tip on a job well done. You can become your own barista after throwing down around $170 for the Nescafe Dolce Gusto.

Francis Francis! X7

If a latte just isn’t enough to get you going in the morning, then this is the gadget for you. The cream-topped espressos are so easy to make that your dog could do it, and you will probably end up running to work, rather than driving after the undeniable jolt of energy. Guzzle down a shot of espresso just seconds after dragging yourself out of bed in the morning with the Francis Francis! X7. Be ready to dish out the cash though, as this high tech gadget comes in at around $400. But think of the money you will save on gas!

Krups KM 4065

It showers the coffee grounds with a heavy dose of water which ensures that every little bit of flavor and dose of caffeine is directed right into your cup. No more wasted coffee grounds or lack of energy for you. The price is even more appealing as you can get the perfect pot of coffee for just under $100.

A New Xbox Console? The Fall of 2010 Will Be A Wonderful Time For Video Game Fans

June 14th 2009 | Posted by Drew

A New Console To Keep You Up At Nights

A New Console To Keep You Up At Nights

Rumors are swirling and the internet is catching fire with news of the release of a new Xbox in the fall of 2010. For quite some time people in the know have heard about the creation of the Natal, which is a new motion controlled technology that doesn’t need a controller. However, just recently Microsoft employees have started admitting that the creation of Natal will lead to a new console, and it may even be named the Xbox Natal.

Hefty Price with Minimal Improvements?

There still is no concrete information on what upgrades will be out there to look for or when exactly we will get a sneak peek at the console, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a lot of excitement. The fear for many Xbox fans is that the console will come with a hefty price tag yet may only include minor improvements. For many video game publishers though, the move can not come soon enough as a number have complained that the 360 has already been maxed out in terms of potential, unlike the PS3.

A New Kind of Console Launch and the Competition

Unlike the previous console launches we have seen in the past, this one will not feature a whole new system or a massive hardware leap. It looks like it is just going to be a simple upgrade, much like the one that Nintendo pulled off recently with the Wii. It is quite coincidental that this new Microsoft console will be coming out right about the same time the Wii HD does. Both will be aimed at mainstream video game fans and include much of the same features and technology. The concern for Microsoft may be that the new Xbox console will probably be quite a bit more expensive.

The Wii and the Xbox Move Closer Together

The truly ironic part is that both consoles are moving in completely opposite directions, yet are becoming quite similar. While the Wii already has motion control sensors, they will be introducing a new HD component that doesn’t exist yet. On the other hand the Xbox 360 already utilizes HD, but does not benefit from motion controls. This will change for both in the fall of next year.

Now, the key here is to keep your excitement, or lack thereof, under control. There probably will not be any more news surrounding a new Xbox console or the Natal system until the Game Developer’s Conference next year. Keep your cool, stay calm and enjoy the current consoles and what they still have to offer……..for now.

The Best Point and Shoot Digital Cameras for the Summer of 2009

June 13th 2009 | Posted by Drew

The Best Point and Shoot Features without Breaking the Bank

The Best Point and Shoot Features without Breaking the Bank

The marketing ploys surrounding megapixels are dead. All the experts have agreed that it is pretty much pointless to push a digital camera anywhere past the 12 MP mark. So what are the digital camera companies going to do now that they lost their prime marketing tactic? Easy. They are going to start cramming as many features as they can within the smallest camera possible. With smartphones and mobile phones featuring quality point and shoot cameras, the competition is fierce and the race to the top is on. Here is a quick look at some of the point and shoot digital cameras that are going to be at the forefront of the summer of 2009.

Casio EX-FC100

This sequel to last years ultrazoom from Casio provides some of the quickest shooting and loading in any digital camera, and still fits in your shirt pocket. It has the ability to burst-shoot at the same rate that cameras with triple the price tag can. The surprising part is the EX-FC100 comes with almost the identical specs that come with the Casio EX-F1 which comes in at around $1,000. The EX-FC100 has the ability to snap 30 megapixel stills and record 1,000 frames of video in just one second. You can discuss the features of this digital camera all day, but the best part will continue to be the price at just around $350.

Ricoh CX1

This point and shoot camera proves that high dynamic range isn’t something that can only be utilized through Photoshop. The Ricoh CX1 automatically perfects your photos and allows your shots to look as lifelike and realistic as possible. HDR photos are becoming the best way to capture life’s special moments and the CX1 is the best at what it does. The 28-200 mm zoom lens, 1 cm macro shooting and ability to record VGA video at a rate of 120 frames per second makes this digital camera one that you simply need to get your hands on. With a price tag of around $380, you really can’t argue with this point and shoot camera.

Canon Powershot D10

Now when you compare the specs for this digital camera with other ones on the market you might scoff at the $330 price tag. However it is the perfect point and shoot camera for a trip to the beach, a day on the boat or even a week in the Caribbean. The Canon Powershot D10 is completely waterproof up to 30 feet below the surface which makes it perfect for snorkeling, diving, or in case you drop it in the pool. It is a timid camera with only a 3x optical zoom but can give you quality underwater photos that not many other cameras can.

Sony DSC-G3

Wi-Fi has taken over everything, including digital cameras. The Sony DSC-G3 is the first point and shoot camera that has a web browser built within. So when you are taking your amateur shots of nature and wildlife, you can go online and look at nature pictures that are way better than yours. This digital camera features 4 GB of built in storage, a 4x optical zoom lens and allows you to instantly upload pictures and video to your favorite social networking sites. Keep your friends and family instantly up to date on Facebook or YouTube with the Sony DSC-G3. The usability does come with a price though, as this digital camera will set you back about $500.

Google Android Smartphone Features; The HTC Dream and the HTC Magic

June 11th 2009 | Posted by Drew

Everything you Need Everywhere you Need to Go

Everything you Need Everywhere you Need to Go

Just last week the Google Android smartphone was finally introduced in Canada. It has been dubbed a revolution by Rogers and many people are falling in love with both of the devices that are available, the HTC Magic and the HTC Dream. There are a lot of reviews and discussion online when it comes to the Google Android smartphones, but to get right into the thick of things, let us just lay out the features that you can have right at your fingertips thanks to Google and Rogers.

Full Touch Screen

On both of the smartphones, the Magic and the Dream, there is a comprehensive, full touch screen that can be utilized. This allows you to instantly access a number of applications or information, and the usability is quite impressive to say the least.

Custom Unlocking

While other smartphones simply offer a password to unlock, you can have a little bit of fun with the Google Android. You can create your own unique connect-the-dot pattern to unlock the phone with your fingertips. You can change it up, make it super creative, or easy to remember. Of course you can also use your Google username and password if you aren’t up for this fancy feature.

Full QWERTY Keyboard

The HTC Magic and the HTC Dream both make it incredibly easy to type away, whether you are sending fun text messages or cranking out a proposal for work. The Magic makes typing completely virtual using the touch screen.  The Dream offers a slide out keyboard that you can access with just a quick flick of your thumb.

Contextual Search

The contextual search option on both the Magic and the Dream allow you to easily find whatever it is you are looking for on your phone. From a certain song to an important document to a phone number, just type in what you are looking for and it will pop right up. No more flipping through categories and applications trying to find that important “client” you met the night before.

Real Web Browsing

With other mobile phones you will usually find that surfing the internet is a mundane task that takes more effort than it is productive. With the Google Android you can instantly access any website, and perform any task that can be done via the net on your personal computer.

Pre-Installed Google Apps

All of the applications that you have become accustomed to with Google are already installed on the Google Android and are easy to find, easy to switch back and forth from and easy to utilize. On the train, in the car, or on a bike, you can access them all with a quick flick of a button or tap of the screen.

Google Maps, Street View and Google Latitude

Both the HTC Dream and the HTC Magic are essentially very comprehensive Sat Nav systems. You can utilize the Google maps application to find directions and locations. With Google Latitude you can let your friends know exactly where you are, and can locate your friends or that important business meeting easily. The Google Street View application is not quite ready, but when it is you will be able to view an exact picture of the street, intersection or restaurant you are looking for. You will no longer go flying past your destination or be straining to read street signs ever again.

3.2 Mega Pixel Camera

The mega-pixel resolution of the built in camera on the HTC Magic and the HTC Dream allow for crystal clear pictures no matter where you are going. Also with the built in Breadcrumbz application you can snap photos and record step by step directions. The next time you are throwing a party or meeting somewhere special, you can ensure your guests never get lost.

Along with all of these added features, the HTC Magic and the HTC Dream also allow you to load up 8 GB of music, text friends, send email, change the home screen and color options, navigate YouTube and upload videos, chat on Google Talk and use a whole host of other features.

To sum it all up, the Google Android smartphones are really complete, all in one devices. Everything you need is right at your fingertips everywhere you go. Stay on time, stay organized and stay up to date on everything that is going on in your life and in the world. After using the HTC Magic or the HTC Dream for a few days, you will surely feel naked leaving the house without it.

The TomTom GO 940 Live; A Sat Nav you can rely on

Traffic and Route Advice without the Confusion

Traffic and Route Advice without the Confusion

The first thing you need to know is that the TomTom GO 940 LIVE does not come cheap. It is going to set you back and make your wallet feel a lot lighter, but the price does not come without benefits. The Hi-Def traffic alerts, and all the little extras, can help ease the pain of the price and make your everyday life and road trips a lot easier. The main feature that TomTom takes pride in is the High-Definition Traffic service that constantly updates you on traffic alerts and road problems, or lack thereof that surround you.

Whether you are making the daily trek to the office, grocery store or heading on a family vacation, the TomTom GO 940 LIVE can help you get there, without all the stress.  The only drawbacks, for now, are the price and the fact that the system is not available in the USA as of it. It has been released in the UK, but should be available in the USA soon, as it already contains detailed maps of all of North America.

Get Where you Need to be, Faster

Unlike other Sat Navs, the traffic alerts are reliable and up to date. They are not your usual out of date RDS updates. The system tracks the movements and driving decisions made by mobile users and notifies you of which roads and highways are overcrowded and which routes can make your trip easier. The system also gives up to the minute feedback on weather, allows you to use Google search functions, and can give you insider information on where you can purchase the cheapest gas in your area. If you take advantage of that feature, then you may be able to take a serious chunk out of the seemingly over top price tag.

Detail, Detail, Detail

While other navigation systems can confuse more than they help, the TomTom GO 940 gives detailed on screen information along with clear and concise vocal instructions to get you on time more often. The maps are exquisite and as detailed as you could possibly hope for. The voice recognition system is a little flawed and you will have to speak more like a robot than a human for the computer to understand, but that has to be expected.

Boring? Maybe. Reliable and Full of Features? Absolutely

With the purchased of the TomTom GO 940 Live, you will usually get a free three month subscription to the LIVE services, and after that there will be a monthly fee, which is unknown as of yet for North American consumers. In the end, this sat nav system does not look all that pretty or high tech, in fact it can be described as a little bit boring. However the lack of effort put into the flashy design of the system, allowed TomTom to put a lot more effort and features into the actual usability. If you can come up with the cash or find the price tag reasonable, the TomTom GO 940 could become your very best friend in a short matter of time.

Have fun, enjoy the features and keep your eyes on the road.

Heinz Creates the World’s Smallest Microwave; Zap Up Lunch Without Leaving Your Desk

June 9th 2009 | Posted by Drew

A Hot Lunch Without Even Standing Up

A Hot Lunch Without Even Standing Up

It is becoming quite obvious that computers are getting decked out with new gadgets and gizmos all the time. It seems as though anything can be plugged into a USB port these days, and now Heinz has taken it to a whole other level.

Working simultaneously with GAMMA Microwaves, Heinz has created the world’s smallest microwave which can actually be used at your desk and is powered by USB. You will never again have an excuse for missing out on lunch. You do not even have to take two hands of off the keyboard, yet you can start cooking your food right in front of you.

Simply because the microwave is still in the early stages, pricing and availability information is not available yet. Our guess is that Heinz is trying to figure out a better way to protect keyboards from baked beans spillage before releasing it on the open market.

At this time, the microwave measures about 150 by 160 by 190 millimeters, which is just right to zap up that cold cup of coffee or a quick lunch. Hey, it might even help out a bit with portion control if that is one of your worries.

Heinz and Gamma started working on the world’s smallest microwave when recent studies showed that 20 percent of workers were passing on lunch as they were to busy to take the time away from their desk. Aside from the office though, just think about. You could heat up a pizza pop practically anywhere you take your computer; on the train to work, in your car or even on the beach. Wi-Fi and this microwave make the snack opportunities endless for even the busiest, or laziest,  people.

Don’t worry, we will let you know when you can get your hands on your very own. For now, just stick to Lunchables and Snack Packs and try to be patient.
