Porsche announced that it was setting the manufacturing processes for its first-ever all-electric vehicle, the Taycan. The German sports car producer plans to become a major player and manufacturer in the electric era.

The company has set aside a budget of more than six billion euros (about $6.94 billion) for its Taycan project which entails the hiring of more than 1,2000 employees and for the implementation of  “an unparalleled knowledge campaign” within the entire company.

Andreas Haffner, Member of hte Executive board responsible for HR and Social Affairs, referred to the Taycan plan as “one of biggest creators of jobs in the history of Porsche.” In fact, many of the newly hired employees will be working on the “two-door sports cars”. In addition to that, Porsche plans to “create a team with a healthy mix of experienced sports car manufacturers and new staff”.

According to the initial plans, Porsche will build something like a “factory within the factory”. This specific structure will be in fact the special production and assembly facilities at the main Porsche plant that will build the electric Taycan vehicle. The company has emphasized that its electric vehicle production and assembling process will be carbon neutral, which is in line with Porsche goal to transform its plats and create a new complete zero-impact production process with no environmental impact.

Albrecht Reimond, Member of the Executive Board responsible for production and logistics, shared, “By applying flexi-line production, Porsche will become the first vehicle manufacturer to use driverless transport systems in a continuous series production process.”

When it comes to the envisioned electric vehicle features, the German car manufacturer explains it has created batteries with “power density the likes of which have never been seen before.” Porsche claims that users would need about four minutes to partly recharge the lithium-ion battery: just a couple of minutes will provide enough energy to drive about 62 miles (100 kilometers), according to NEDC.
