Jaguar Land Rover Invests $15M into CloudCar

CloudCar, a Palo Alto startup, announced that Jaguar Land Rover invested $15 million in the company. Jaguar Land Rover secured a minority investment in the company. The UK automotive company will adopt CloudCar’s next generation cloud services platform as part of the investment.

CloudCar is a leading developer offering machine-learning for automotive. The company’s cloud services platform allows automotive manufacturers to use the company’s services while maintaining their own branding.

The company allows personalization and voice-activated applications.

CloudCar CEO, Philipp Popov states “We are excited to deepen our relationship with Jaguar Land Rover and we also look forward to other manufacturers benefitting from our recent progress.”

The company’s next generation platform will debt in the Jaguar I-PACE, the company’s first fully electric model. Jaguar Land Rover’s executive director of Corporate Strategy, Hanno Kirner, stated, “This represents an important step in developing connected car technology. CloudCar has been working with premium manufacturers on some of the most exciting opportunities and challenges in the fields of machine learning and infotainment.”

The company raised $26.5 million to date. CloudCar’s Series A funding round raised $11.5 million for the company in 2012.

Drivers and the way they interact with their automobiles is the focus of CloudCar. The company aims to develop the “next-generation” technology. The company works with cutting edge technology and automotive OEMs.

Jaguar Land Rover secured an undisclosed stake in CloudCar. The company’s cloud products improve customer driving experiences. Vehicles using the technology can communicate with one another, making driving safer.

The two companies have worked together for several years.

CloudCar was present at CES 2017 in Las Vegas. The company showcased what 2017 offers for OEMs. The company’s services compete with the likes of Google and Tesla, which are working to automate a user’s driving experience while making automotive smarter.

The company debuted their onboard infotainment product at CES 2017 with a great reception.
